Arabian Faults

FAULTS: Club feet; calf knees; sickle hocks; parrot mouth; cryptorchid; long weak back; steep croup.

Typical Model Arabian Faults (in addition to the above): Lack of masculinity in a stallion; lack of femininity in a mare; apple quarters; toe in; toe out; stands under (HR Nataf!); stands over; poor hip placement; head too big in proportion to rest of body; "overkill" on the hair (sculpted or "real" hair); upright shoulders; coarse muzzle (PS Arab!); lack of depth through jowl; lack of refinement at throat; pasterns too upright; pasterns too sloping; upside-down neck; "extra" vertebrae in neck; neck arched in totally the wrong place; and a multitude of other bio-mechanical nightmares too vast to be described!

TO SUM UP: When assessing an Arabian horse there should be no doubt that you are looking at an Arabian. The overall picture should be of a well put together horse of smooth proportions. The body should be of three equal parts: shoulder-body-hindquarters. The legs should roughly be as long as the back, balanced by a graceful neck of good length and that unmistakable Arabian head.
